Oasis Fresh Market has officially made its way to south Tulsa with the acquisition of the former Cox Cash Saver at 6207 S. Peoria Ave.
Oasis founder and CEO AJ Johnson, District 2 Councilor Anthony Archie and District 1 Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper celebrated the milestone Wednesday afternoon.
The three spoke on the importance of having accessible grocery stores in all parts of Tulsa as well as the significance of the store’s growth since it opened in the northern part of the city in 2021.
“It’s more than just groceries … Five years ago people thought we would never make it,” Johnson said. “People thought, ‘Oh they’ll rob you blind. Why even build, why even invest in this community?’ And yet here we are, not even five and half years later, not just thriving in north Tulsa, but now expanding into this district.”
Over the next two months, Oasis will replace the Cox Cash Saver signage, repaint the roof and bring in new suppliers to fully transition it. The store will remain open as remodeling takes place.
Jonathan Coussens, a spokesperson for Oasis, told The Eagle the south Tulsa site will now accept food assistance programs like Double Up Oklahoma, something Cash Saver didn’t do.
“That is a game changer,” he said. “Having those programs now here on 65th and Peoria in this location, we believe that we’ll be able to help thousands of families every single week that rely on those programs.”
In April, Oasis also opened a mini market at the Western Supply apartments.
The brand plans to open a downtown location sometime in late August on the first floor of the ARCO apartment building. Once done, it’ll be the first downtown grocer in over a decade.
