Chamberlain and Berry parks are getting $27 million in upgrades over the next year, Tulsa officials announced Monday.
“Parks help define a community. They’re gathering places for neighbors, places that promote health, places that families bond, places where young people begin to build confidence on the field of play,” Mayor Monroe Nichols said during a groundbreaking ceremony.
An Improve Our Tulsa sales tax package helped raise $5 million while the rest was raised through private donations and partnerships.
Berry Park, located in the Northridge neighborhood, will get a 0.3-mile walking loop, basketball courts and new shaded picnic and seating areas.
Chamberlain Park’s 15-acre renovations include a new basketball court, a playground, community garden and a newly constructed Jane A. Malone Community Center. It will include an atrium lobby, multipurpose classrooms, fitness center and gym.
In 2020, the city renamed the center after Malone, a longtime north Tulsa community advocate.

At the Monday groundbreaking, Malone said she started working on behalf of the community decades ago because she was “tired of the City of Tulsa being a tale of two cities.”
“We are finally seeing a dream come true,” she continued. “I am just Jane, trying to make a difference in our community.”
Crews are expected to complete construction at Chamberlain in late spring 2027. The city has yet to announce an expected completion date for renovations at Berry Park.
